I was there. Even though I had experience with medical work abroad, and an interest in “alternative” care, I practiced in the traditional medical model for many years. My success was measured by the number of patients seen, and the amount of labs ordered. I struggled with the overuse and abuse of medical resources and saw patient after patient continue to battle chronic disease despite investing significant time and money for medications and healthcare visits. What my patients really needed was someone to help them set goals and stick to them, a guide to hold their hand, cheer them on, and allow them to see their own amazing capacities to heal. They needed practical instruction on how to incorporate home cooking into their lifestyle, carve out time for repletion, and grow gratitude for their already amazing selves. I started incorporating this dialogue into my medical visits in the traditional model, but found myself limited by time constraints and insurance company expectations. The politics of it all finally was too much, and I knew I had to start my own personal coaching practice if I wanted to reach people in a way that truly brought wellness back to health.

I ran two road marathons at age 38 and 39. The training cycle for the second, Boston, was soon after my pelvic fracture so I trained for it on the bike. I requalified. All mental.

fun fact number one

I was raised on vegetarian Indian food. In boarding school, I could not stand eating hummus all day for my protein source and one night when offered, I caved on a couple of McDonald’s hamburgers. I have tried different “diets” in the past, including Paleo and pescatarian. Now we as a family have settled into a diverse whole food plant based diet keeping a solid 80/20 regimen.

Our third kid, Moxie, came by overwhelming surprise. We went from needing no childcare to full time, and from the 4 door to the Odyssey. Turns out she was just the (thing) that our family needed.

A 16 week group marriage counseling curriculum was one of the best decisions of my life, after 12 years of marriage.

fun fact number four

I love adventure vacations with my husband and family. Hiking Cinque Terra and the Kalalau trail are some highlights. Both places were flooded over soon after we visited. Don’t go somewhere we just went!

5 fun facts about me

For decades I've worked in productivity driven traditional medicine, burned myself out, and have experienced firsthand the power of personal transformation. Enduring a major health crisis in the midst of raising three young kids, I've worked my way out of self doubt and depression. My coaching approach weaves the personal and professional, and merges my education in western medicine, religious studies and Integrative Lifestyle Nutrition.
